What is the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination?

The Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) a massage certification test administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). The purpose of the FSMTB is to enhance the profession of massage therapy by aiding the member boards in their efforts to promote bodywork in a manner that is both safe and efficient. The FMSTB provides opportunities for professional communication among the members, offers education and guidance, works with members regarding legal guidelines, and works to improve standards.

The mission of the FSMTB is to support its member boards in their work to ensure that the practice of massage therapy is provided to the public in a safe and effective manner. Among other things, the FSMTB is concerned with the provision of a massage therapy licensing exam that is thorough and based upon knowledge and experience and reliably demonstrates competence at the entry level.

What is the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination?

The MBLEx is the result of the Job Task Analysis Survey. The Survey contains input from massage therapy and assessment experts, including between 7,000 and 8,000 massage, bodywork, and somatic professionals from all states. Pearson VUE administers the MBLEx for the FSMTB at centers throughout the United States.
